Biography
Tori Franklin is an American lyric soprano, born and raised in East Tennessee. Originally seeking a career in choral music, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Brevard College, where she studied voice under Dr. Kathryn Gresham. During her time in Brevard, she participated in several opera scenes programs and quickly fell in love with the stage. She competed at the regional and national levels in the National Association for Teachers of Singing competition, advancing in both Classical and Musical Theatre categories. She recently graduated from The University of Tennessee with a Master of Music degree (Vocal Performance), where she studied with Lorraine DiSimone. While at UT, she performed roles such as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Ramiro in La finta giardiniera, and the title role in Bizet's Carmen. Miss Franklin also had the privilege to work with the Knoxville Opera Studio, where she sang the role of Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor and participated in the choruses of Turandot, Aida, and Cavalleria rusticana. Miss Franklin has also been a Young Artist with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center, where she recently performed Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus and covered the title role in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah. Miss Franklin can be recently seen as an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera, where she just completed her third season. She had the joy of portraying La Duchesse du Krakentorpe in La fille du regiment, in addition to performing in the choruses of Tosca, Les pêcheurs des perles, and Attila. During this season, Miss Franklin was the awarded of the Stuart and Patricia Silver Award for Returning Apprentice Artist by the Sarasota Opera Association and the Manatee Opera Guild.
